Probably one of the first 12" vinyl I had in my reggae collection was "The Hotter Claps Clap them" By Ranking Joe & the Steppers (with The Revolutionaries on riddim) on Greensleeves. The pressing of the record was superb and Joe drops in after about 2 minutes in his inimitable reserved rolling style. It's kind of a teenage ambition fulfilled to have him appear here. Trumpeter Alex came around in Berlin and I rented a lovely vintage French ribbon microphone to record him with. After chopping up the horn for hours to create the melodies, I sent it to Gareth in Wellington, New Zealand to double up and add his own take to the track (his band 'Newtown Rocksteady' are on point). Result.
